Description:
The pros and cons of proposed schemes for high –level radioactive waste storage and disposal are discussed. Free-sinking canisters, tethered canisters, constructed facilities in the dry valles and tunnel burial are all possibilities. Each has political as well as technological and environmental implications. The authors suggest the establishment of an international body to supervise the implementation and maintenance of whatever method is ultimately chosen.
