It may be difficult to establish an absolute chronology for the sediment cores obtained by the DVDP due to the lack of datable material. The presence of a volcanic ash fall, however, has been noted in the western part of Wright Valley and this ash fall might reasonably serve as a suitable time horizon for the region.
