Although the data are not complete and monitoring of personnel and habitats has not been of sufficient duration to make a comparison, there is growing evidence that people’s presence in Antarctica has nonvisibly as well as visibly altered some areas. Microbial sensors continue to be a valuable tool for determining impact on this continent’s ecosystems.
