Description:
The authors comment on some of the differences between Lindsay’s (1973) description of the dune field in Lower Victoria Valley and their own observations of the area. It is stated that there is good reason to expect “reversing” movement of the dunes in this area, but it is believed that Lindsay overemphasizes this fact and that contrary to normal expectations reversed (eastward) migration of the dune form appears to be limited. Also Lindsay’s statement that “a stratigraphy of interbeeded snow and sand units develop on the eastern slopes of the dunes when winds blow from the west” may be misleading; such stratigraphy also develops when wind blows from the east – perhaps even more frequently.
