Electrical depth sounding and ground resistivity measurements in Wright Valley, Taylor Valley and Victoria Valley in south Victoria Land were conducted during the 1971-1972 austral summer with a DC-type geohmeter. Electrical depth sounding in the dry valleys of Antarctica reveal abnormally thin permafrost in spite of the cold climate. The lack of thick confining permafrost is due to saline soils which depress the freezing point.
