Description:
The crystalline basement rocks of Wright Valley consist of abundant augen gneisses, quartzo-feld spathic gneisses, calc-silicate rocks, and lesser amounts of politic schists, marble, and amphibolites. Augen gneisses occur as discontinuous layers in other metamorphic rocks and as more massive bodies in the cores of folds. Other metamorphic rocks occur as discontinuous layers, except amphibolite which occurs only locally in calc-silicate layers.
